After two defeats Mundford need a good result against Dereham this week to regain confidence and get their season back on track.

Mundford made the long trek to Sheringham on Saturday.

Captain Bailey once again had the choice of what to do and had no hesitation in bowling first. Youngster Pat Yates made the breakthrough in the first over.

For the next 26 overs Sheringham were happy to push the singles and score at two an over. Opening bowler Grady was bowling a nagging line and length even ex-international Rav Pushpakamara was unable to contend with.

Grady's 12-over spell conceding a miserly 18 overs and even brought a round of applause from Sheringham.

Spinner Bailey toiled away at the other end. Mundford will rue a missed stumping with Pushpakamara on 10.

When Bailey removed Tayler and three balls later ex-county player Carey Mundford smelled a chance. At 28 overs the home side had crept to 63-3.

Sheringham's Sri Lankan crept to 50 and with ex-Canary Chris Sutton's quickfire 59 a match-winning partnership was developing.

Yates came back to remove Sutton and the next over Allsop had a caught and bowled chance off Pushpakamara put down.

Mundford would pay dearly for this missed opportunity.

Allsop's final five overs went for 93, 95 per cent from Pushpakamara's bat (133no) in a total of 235.

With a slightly weakened batting line-up, it would have been up to the top order to score the majority, Bailey hoping Gates would follow his match-winning 82 not out from last year at Sheringham.

Unfortunately, Mundford were to crumble to 25-6. Batting out for a draw was the visitors' only choice now, only Grady managed double figures with 17.

The visitors stumbled to 59, leaving Aaron Burt high and dry on five not out.

Skipper Bailey felt his side had chances but failed to take some golden opportunities.
