Another maximum entry of 80 players took part in a pairs stableford competition at Swaffham Golf Club’s fifth annual seniors’ open day

The competition is not open to Swaffham members, and the entry brought players from Cambridgshire, Essex, Lincolnshire and Suffolk as well as from Norfolk.

Blessed with a wonderful sunny day, some good scores were posted, and following a large buffet lunch the eventual winners were: 1 Mike Keeble & Kevin Lock (Barnham Broom) 44 points, 2 Basil Warren & Bill Sullivan (Newmarket Links) 42 points, 3 Brian Bidwell & David Porter (Rookery Park) 41 points, 4 Spencer Bowyer & Barry Tiplady (Girton) 39 (after a five-way count-back).

Brian and David have played in all five events to date, repeating their 2011 third place, having also won, and been placed second in previous competitions.

Spencer and Barry were second last year.

There were also prizes for the straightest drive (won by Jeff Sutton from Richmond Park), nearest the pin on the par three 16th (won by David Robertson from Mundesley) and nearest the pin with the second shot to the par four 14th (won by Keith Fayers from Newmarket Links).

The draw for free entry to the 2013 competition was won by John Woodward and Tony Simpson, from Newmarket Links GC.
