Thetford Town manager Mick Money was understandably delighted with his young side's thrilling win over Diss on Tuesday night.

Thetford gained welcome Ridgeons Division One points with a 4-3 victory over the Tangerines, who were seven places above them in the table.

After a goal-less first half the game exploded into life with Thetford's goals by Bryant, Webb, Campbell and skipper Skipp. Although Diss scored late on, Thetford hung on for a satisfying victory.

Money said that the team, with an average age of about 20 for Tuesday's game, had been threatening such a fine win for some time. “It has been coming for weeks. We have been playing well. Everything was right about it - we got the tactics spot-on,” he said, although he added they were lucky to go in 0-0 at half-time.

“Our 17-year-old keeper Matt Terry was brilliant, he made two point-blank saves and the two centre-halves - Christian Money and Chris Collins-Reed - are both 18 and kept everything out.

“Confidence is sky high and hopefully they can go on and get better and better to the end of the season,” he added.

Money admitted there were several reasons why it was an important victory over Diss. “That was the game I wanted to win all season. It's a local derby, they can afford to pay players, and they have got a couple of players from the Thetford area.”

Next up for Thetford is Cornard this Saturday, who beat Town 2-1 at home, and then there are four more games until the end of the season.

Money thinks four of the five are winnable, with the exception of Halstead which is a tricky long journey on a Tuesday night to a tough team.
