ANOTHER Thetford Sunday side fielding seven under 16's travelled to Old Buckenham for a Derek Cousins Division Two encounter.

On a superb track, Thetford captain Karl Bryanton won the toss and batted first.

After yet again losing two early wickets, Bryanton and Liam Conroy aimed to stabilise the innings and they added 48 before Conroy was bowled by one that kept low and Bryanton smashed a long hop straight to deep backward square.

Andy Kerling was then given the task of using up as many overs as possible and he accomplished this batting the rest of the innings to finish not out.

The middle order came and went but Jack Lingard deposited seven boundaries all around the field with some high-class shots to top score with 32.

Lewis Greyson then helped Kerling turn over the strike as Thetford managed maximum batting points ending on 156-7.

The home side's outstanding bowler was youngster JO Lincoln who finished with 1-27 from 10 overs.

Thetford needed an early breakthrough in the Old Buckenham innings and got it thanks to Lingard's pace and swing.

In fact, Lingard produced a fiery spell on a lively pitch which accounted for five batsmen and deserved a whole lot more as he delivered some crackerjacks time and time again.

The other opening bowler Greyson also grabbed a wicket, very well caught in the gully by Iqbal and at 61-6, Thetford smelt victory.

But as the youngsters bowled tirelessly, Old Buckenham captain J Lund and B Askew produced a partnership of 96 to steal the game.

Thetford weren't given the best of deals along the way though as two very contentious and embarrassing decisions went against them but their man of the match would have to be Lingard whose unbeaten 32 and his 5-25 in 10 overs almost secured a deserved victory.
