Kathy’s treble steers Thetford to hockey victory at Dereham

Dereham 2 Thetford 6

THETFORD were too powerful for Dereham – even with just ten players. Kathy Hammond notched her first hat-trick of the season, while Sophie Wheeler scored two outstanding goals while Karen Hodgkinson made some great runs and fabulous crosses – setting up several of the goals and scoring one herself.

Wheeler’s first goal was notable: Hodgkinson beat players and crossed the ball while almost on the base line. The ball rose, and Wheeler knocked it home. Captain Sarah Nichol piled on the pressure while Charlie Harwood tackled strongly and made some excellent passes. Sophie Kelly, Alena Sweigart and Sharon Brimson – with Abby Rolph in goal – were strong, intercepting, closing down play by making key tackles.

Thetford Ladies want to thank the Dereham umpire who stepped in at the last moment.

The Warren Services player of the match was Karen Hodgkinson.
