Thetford 1, Beccles 0

Good teamwork and great hockey were the winners as Thetford secured their third win of the season in the top division of the Norfolk Women’s League.

Beccles came out with only nine players so were unsurprisingly dominated – but their solid defence made it difficult for Thetford to score.

Sharon Brimson and Charlie Harwood worked hard on the left midfield, often slipping the ball into the D. Sarah Nichol and Charlie Bone were equally eager on the right, working with Sophie Kelly to drive for goal. Some lovely, free flowing hockey created excellent chances while Brimson made some excellent stops and harried the opposition into mistakes.

The only goal came late in the game from a free hit by Brimson that went into the D and flew high off Sophie Wheeler’s stick towards the top left corner. The goalkeeper saved, but the ball fell kindly for Kathy Hammond, who slipped it into the net. Player of the match: Sharon Brimson.
