THETFORD Independents U8 completed a very successful first season with a journey to Leicester City's Walker Stadium to compete in the invitation-only Topps Tiles national six-a-side competition.
Competing against some of the best teams in the country, Indies produced a series of excellent performances to fight their way through to the final.
Playing against a team from Liverpool, in a 35,000 seat stadium, with over a thousand spectators, Indies held their nerve in a close game to draw 0-0.
The game went into extra time and with either team looking capable of grabbing the result it was the Liverpool team which clinched the game with a couple of late goals. Although disappointed not to win, the boys had a great day out at the Walker Stadium and would like to thank Topps Tiles and, in particular, Cara and the staff at the Thetford branch for their support.
Indies will be running a second team in the coming season and are looking for new players. If your child is under nine on September 1, training takes place at Thetford Rugby Club on Saturday mornings at 10.30. Contact Tom McGill on 07930 711116 or t.om@hotmail.co.uk
