Honours even as promoted Thetford and Ipswich battle for pride

PUBLISHED: 12:35 21 March 2017

Archant

Thetford travelled to Ipswich looking to redress the defeat they suffered at the hands of the already-crowned league champions.

Both teams are promoted for next season so the contest was more for pride. The game began with both teams flexing their attacking muscles and it was Ipswich who gained the early advantage after being awarded a penalty corner which they clinically converted.

Thetford fought back and 10 minutes later were awarded their own penalty corner after some enterprising approach play by Andrew Smith and William Rolfe. Reece Laffar took the injected ball and skilfully moved around the Ipswich defender to flick the ball into the bottom left corner.

In the second half, Ipswich’s defence managed to repel the chances created by Josh Harper and James Burt while Thetford’s back three of Alastair Smith, Keith Squires and Kieran Allen formed an impenetrable wall and keeper Jeff King had little to do.
