Thetford Golf Club captain Trevor Wignall will have an extra memory of his year in office — he recorded a hole-in-one on Monday.
Trevor was playing in the Seniors’ April Stableford and started his round in perfect fashion when he hit a five iron which landed on the top tier of the green and rolled into the hole.
Trevor was playing with vice-captain Bob Pearson and Alan Hitchborn. Bob must have had a premonition as he does not usually play while wearing a bow tie — he had attended the club’s 40s night on Saturday and was challenged to wear the same outfit for Monday’s competition.
Meanwhile Thetford Ladies’ second team suffered a narrow 4-3 defeat at Sprowston Manor in Division Six of the Norfolk League. Margaret Hayward, Ann Engwell and Mary Neal were the Thetford winners.
A bumper field is set to take part in the Spring Open on Thursday, the first of the club’s open events this year.
