Hole-in-one joy is short-lived for Thetford Golf Club manager
PUBLISHED: 06:30 21 October 2015
Thetford Golf Club manager Malcolm Grubb recorded his first ever hole-in-one at the 17th hole at Royal Cromer – but he did not know much about it.
Playing in the Golf Club Managers’ Association Autumn Meeting he ended a 45-year wait when his pitching wedge found the hole at the 114-yard 17th, where most of the green is obscured by gorse. It was only when playing partner Alan Brown – Thetford’s vice-captain – checked the hole that the ball was found.
Unfortunately he was denied a memento when he hit the ball in question to the right of the 18th green, never to be seen again.
