THETFORD AC athletes Ryan Skipp and Georgina Howe competed in the prestigious English Schools Track and Field Championships at the weekend in the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield.

Ryan Skipp, who attends Rosemary Musker High School in Thetford, represented Norfolk.

Running in the Junior Boys' 400m on Friday, Ryan competed against some of the very best sprinters in England and finished fifth in his heat in a very creditable 53.51 seconds.

Ryan has trained very hard this year and thoroughly deserved a place in the Norfolk team.

Georgina Howe, who attends St Benedict's Upper School in Bury, competed for the Suffolk Team.

In the Inter Girls' Hammer competition, Georgina found herself up against the cream of the crop of English hammer throwers.

On Friday, Georgina performed exceptionally well to qualify in 12th place for the final with a throw of 35.20m.

In the final on Saturday, her best throw of 36.43m earned her ninth place overall.

Georgina has recently been awarded a grant from Sportsaid Trust in conjunction with Norfolk County Council to aid her athletics development.

Both athletes have been training hard all year, specifically working towards this event, with coaches Mick Johnson, Gary Howe and Malcolm Fenton.

Thetford AC offers a month's free trial to anyone interested.

All coaches are CRB checked and are UK Athletics qualified.
