Thetford CC first team very much picked up from where they left off last week, after yet another comfortable victory, this time over Ashmanhaugh.

Ashmanhaugh were put into bat by the home skipper, Newey, which seemed at first a radical move on such a hot day.

This proved to be the right tactic, as pace-man Lingard made the early breakthrough, taking the wicket of Metcalfe who scored just 9.

A mini-stand was to proceed as away captain Everett and Gant put on a further 50 runs before Everett (29) chipped a comfortable catch to square leg, off L Greyson's bowling.

This was subsequently the catalyst for a middle-order collapse after M Terry (1-41), bowled Gant (25) and Greyson picked up the vital wicket of C Nation, who didn't trouble the scorers.

Wickets came but runs didn't, with Greyson picking up another three - taking an excellent 5-35 on his first game of the season.

S Warminger (39) was the only real resistance, with J Lingard and Hussain not quite clearing up the tail, leaving the home side to chase 169-9.

The Thetford run pursuit began quickly and directly, putting the Ashmanhaugh seamers off their rhythm in the early stages.

Their wayward line and length was punished by P Terry (35) and L Conroy (61) - who both brought their excellent form with them from the previous week.

R Conroy came and went, so it was for the skipper Newey (30 not out) and contributions from A Dennis (16) and S Richardson (11 not out) to steer the hosts home.

This was the first back-to-back victory for Thetford in three seasons, picking the runs off with 10 overs to spare, ending with 171-4.
