THETFORD TOWN SUNDAY team entertained Great Ellingham in the first game of the season.

Thetford lost the toss and were put into bat, and started well, as Kerling and Greyson found regular boundaries. The partnership was broken in the 10th over, when Greyson was bowled for a solid 24. He was replaced by R Conroy, who only managed nine, and L Conroy was out for 11 after playing a hideous shot.

Thetford seemed to be struggling at 88 for four when Kerling was caught for a solid 29. Replacements, Shepherd and Terry, hung around for 13 overs and pushed the score on to 159 with an innings saving partnership. Shepherd then fell for a well-crafted 41 and Terry followed shortly after being struck in front. Thetford finished 190 for seven, after a few lusty blows from Anderson.

Great Ellingham got off to a good start with 47 for nought off 10 overs, frustrating Thetford's opening bowlers.

Terry and L Conroy were then brought into the attack, with the latter striking twice to dismiss Ewin and Cooper for 30 and 33 respectively. Whiddett and Allum then came to the crease and after seven overs, it seemed they had the better of the two leg spinners.

Thetford then went back to their seamers, bringing in Anderson, who duly picked up two wickets.

L Conroy and Terry then returned to finish their spells, with Terry picking up three wickets in one over and Conroy two wickets in two overs. Terry and Conroy both finished with good figures of three for 43 and four for 46. With rain interrupting play, Great Ellingham needed 18 off 20 balls after some positive batting from Allum.

When play resumed, and with Great Ellingham needing 16 runs to win, Hassan, on his debut match for Thetford, took a deserved wicket to win the game for the home side.

A good all-round performance and a great start to the season.
