There was a good field of 17 riders for the first of the Cycling Club Breckland 2009 series of club events - a five-mile time trial based at Scoulton on Wednesday last.

First away was 13-year-old Emily Davis, who has been keeping fit playing rugby during the winter months.

A puncture near the finish left her disappointed with her time of 17 minutes 44 seconds but her brother, 11-year-old Declan was pleased to record 12:54, having ridden tandem with his grandfather Don Saunders.

Fastest overall was Steve Gorbutt, of Diss CC, in 12:03 with Breckland's Geoff Muller second, timing in at 12:29.

Club-mate Mark Fairhead was the only other rider to get round in under 13 minutes when he recorded 12:53.

Other Breckland times were: Ken Price 13:36, Myles Lubbock 13:39, Paul Hoggett 14:05, Allan Holland 14:32, Paul Cross 15:16, Martin Badham 16:36 and Stephen Penney, a new recruit, 18:34.

Putting his team-mates to shame, however, was junior Adam Cross who finished in 13:19.

Thomas Doe, who rides for VC Norwich, along with Peter Hamon (Verulam CC), competed in the second-claim section, with Thomas timing in 14:02 and Peter at 17:12.
