Two hat-tricks on top of a fine team performance spelled victory for the hosts, Thetford Ladies.

Kathy Hammond clinched her three from one short corner and two in open play. Diving, Dawn Heavey made sure of her third to follow two punishing short-corner strikes.

Calm and confident, Thetford Ladies were a true unit this week for their first victory in the M+A Partners Premier League. Chris Church and Sophie Kelly were so solid at the back, with Davina Rolph covering the goalmouth to fox attackers.

The team used the width of the pitch - with Karen Hodgkinson, Sarah Nichol, Karen Spiller and Ziggi Clarke fielding some fine passes and blocking any attacks.

Defending mistakes gifted two short-corner conversions for Heavey. Hammond scored from a cross from Hodgkinson, who had run the length of the pitch after picking up a ball from defence. Clarke was in the perfect spot - wide open on the left of the D - to aim the ball for goal, then slotted home by Hammond.

The third was from a short corner - a neat little triangle with Hammond at its tip to tap the ball into goal. In the second half, Leanne Smith joined the midfield, making some fine runs and some excellent passes, working with Nichol. Pelicans worked harder to attack in the second half, but failed to find any chink in the defence.

Heavey had not had enough of goal scoring though. Spotting a cross coming near to her position she dived into the D to connect the tip of her stick with the ball, which hammered into goal.

Player of the match: Kathy Hammond.
