EVEN though Thetford Men have already been promoted they competed in this NE14 Hockey Division 5NE game against North Walsham to the highest level.

Thetford began passing the ball round like they were many divisions above this Walsham side, slotting home 11 goals without reply.

MoM Godbold opened the scoring when the keeper reacted quickly to his first shot only to see the rebound land back at his feet where he made no mistake.

The second goal came from a defence-splitting pass from Snow down the middle of the pitch who found Godbold unmarked at the top of the D who struck the ball home.

Walsham did have a few breakaway attempts but Senior Burris was solid at the back. From a Town short corner Godbold managed to beat two defenders before slotting in.

Gary Scott was rewarded with a goal when Godbold squared the ball for him to calmly flick into the corner.

It was 5-0 when Godbold was found unmarked in the D.

In the second half Junior Burris punted a 50-yard ball through to Godbold who just had the keeper to beat to make it 6-0.

Then Mcmurtary's trademark widow maker rocketed into the back board after a short corner.

A quick ball from Pandy into the D who found Godbold alone and able to flick the ball past the keeper.

Goal number nine was a freak goal which saw Snow rifle the ball into Godbold only for a Walsham player to get a touch, the ball bounced high into the air giving Godbold a chance for a reverse-stick volley which landed in the goal.

Another excellent short corner routine saw Ashley Rex shank the ball into the path of Blower who skied the ball into the net.

Blower went on to get the final goal when the ball popped free near the goal line and excellent strength saw him muscle the ball over the line.

This game was dominated by an excellent passing game and clinical finishing which stand them in good stead for the tougher division next year.
