THETFORD Town brought their very best hockey play to the pitch this week and fought off title contenders North Walsham with ease, winning 4-1.

With Thompson and Hooton back Thetford were able to exploit down the wings early on and apply pressure. It was a slide-rule pass down the middle by Snow for Godbold to side-step the keeper only to be brought down illegally and a penalty stroke awarded, Snow calmly roofed it to put the home side ahead.

Godbold came close moments later when he chipped into the top right only for the Walsham keeper to deny him at the last moment. Avery, back between the sticks, was unbeatable, securing Thetford's one-goal advantage into the break.

Thetford continued the pressure after the break and were awarded a succession of short corners, the trademark one-two let Godbold break his duck for 2009 and make it 2-0. Moments later Godbold broke free and manage to pass two defenders to slot under the advancing keeper. Town kept their composure and a dancing run from Alan Snow who unselfishly squared for Harper to fire into the top corner in style.

Late on Thetford made a defensive clanger and gifted the ball to the Walsham forward who scored.
