It is 20 years since Heidi Davis pedalled to victory to become national cycle champion at the age of 16.

But having hung up her competitive cycling shoes some years ago she is delighted her daughter has managed to repeat her achievement at an even younger age.

Emily Davis, 13, completed a 25-mile time-trial held at Attleborough in just one hour, 29 minutes and four seconds this month to clinch the title of national cycle champion 2009 for her age group.

Heidi said: “I am very proud of her. I would not think there are many families who can say they have had both mother and daughter become national cycle champion.”

Cycling has been a passion for several generations of the Watton-based family.

Emily's great grandparents set up Cycling Club Breckland nearly 30 years ago and her grandfather, Don Saunders, is still active in the sport.

But despite having reached a high so early in her biking career, cycling is not Emily's first sporting love.

The 13-year-old is heavily involved in rugby at the Swaffham club and already plays for the east of England team.

She one day hopes to go on to make it into the national women's side.
