THERE were some dramatic events involving Thetford AC juniors representing Norfolk at the UK Inter-Counties Cross-Country Championships in Nottingham on Saturday.

THERE were some dramatic events involving Thetford AC juniors representing Norfolk at the UK Inter-Counties Cross-Country Championships in Nottingham on Saturday.

It also served as the World Trials and incorporated the UK Cross Challenge final.

These championships are one of the most important cross-country meetings of the domestic season with over 4,000 competitors taking part, bringing together the best athletes of all ages, both men and women from all over the UK.

In the U13 boys' 3k race Jason Higgins, running in his first major event, finished in a well deserved 199th place in 14:04, with team-mate Ryan Skipp not far behind in 227th place in 14:18.

Also running in her first major event in the U13 girls' 3km race was Magan Norry, who despite losing a shoe continued to run the race and finished in 214th place in 15:31.

In the U15 girls' 4km race Lucy Tyler finished in a very creditable 178th place in 17:32 and Tasmin Searle gave her all to finish in 245th in 18:21.

It was not such a good day for the U15 boys in their 4.5km race which saw Thomas Francis having to pull out in sight of the finish with muscle cramp and team-mate Joe Kirton also unable to finish after sustaining a knee injury.

The U17 Women's 5km race saw Charlotte Taverner give it her all to finish in 244th place in 20:13. But performance of the day must go to Sam Wing, running in the U20 women's 6km race, who finished in 108th place in 29:17.
