Mark Scott believes Thetford's goalless draw with local rivals Swaffham on Saturday was a case of two precious points dropped.

The Town manager was disappointed with the result, saying: “I thought we played really well and caused Swaffham some real problems at times but our finishing cost us.”

The home side wasted a number of good chances throughout the competitive fixture but failed to break the deadlock on a blustery afternoon at the Recreation Ground, writes John Watts.

However, Scott is adamant his forwards can rediscover their goalscoring touch: “Our finishing is usually second-to-none and Matt Dixon and Simon Mann will be eager to put that right.

“That's four games undefeated for us now and considering the poor start we had to the season that is a big positive.

“There's a good atmosphere here at the moment and the players will remain upbeat.”

Thetford face a tough mid-table fixture at March Town United this Saturday, desperate to avenge a 2-1 defeat from earlier on in the season, 3pm kick-off.

“We believe we can go there, give them a game and come back with something to show for it,” added Scott.

Thetford Town 0, Swaffham Town 0

In windy conditions, it was Swaffham who had the early pressure with a corner in the first few minutes which was cleared, writes Bob Richards.

Town's first real effort came on 13 minutes with a Howard effort just wide.

Swaffham had more of the ball in the opening 25 minutes but did not really trouble Bowden in the Town goal.

Clayton effort gave Thetford another chance but was just wide. Swaffham were lucky to have 10 men on the field after Dixon was brought down as he ran through on goal, but on 44 minutes a run by Mann into the penalty area saw him fouled.

He stepped up to take the resulting penalty only to see it saved by the keeper.

Swaffham started well in the second half and a good save by Bowden denied them a goal, then Collins-Reed had an effort just wide.

Swaffham's best chance came on 56 minutes when a good run saw the ball just wide.

Swaffham were then reduced to 10 men but Thetford, as hard as they tried, could not take advantage of the extra man.

From then on it was Town who put pressure on the Swaffham's defence and should have wrapped up the points but for some good defensive work by Swaffham.

Dixon, Clayton and Mann all had good chances to score but Swaffham held on to earn a point.

Thetford Reserves lost 10-2 at Gorleston Reserves in the Chell Trophy.

This Saturday they entertain Diss Town in the league (3pm).
