THETFORD first XI captain Liam Conroy scored an unbeaten 111 to help his side maintain their 100 percent start to the season and put them top of Alliance Division Four after defeating Norwich III at home.

Norwich were put into bat by the hosts and it only took until the seventh over for Thetford to strike, Shaun Bowden (2-29) removing Barton for 17.

This didn’t seem to deter the visitors, as Lear and Jessup looked like they were beginning to take control of the game. This was until a brilliant caught and bowled from Conroy (2-45) removed Lear (18) and a rare catch in the deep from Piggott took the wicket of Jessup (36), from same bowler.

Bradford (0) came and went, but the Norwich middle order looked to inject some impetus into the visitors batting, with Sexton (48) and Quinton (17).

However, an excellent second spell from Lewis Greyson (2-34), ably supported by Matt Terry (2-46) and Daniel Phelps (1-37), restricting the away side to 201-9. Despite all of the bowlers chipping in, they were unable to take that elusive tenth wicket for the extra point.

The Thetford reply began in their typically patient and studious manner, with Conroy and Andy Kerling never really looking troubled.

The opening pair put on a stand of 107 for the first wicket, until Kerling (39) was run out, going for a quick single.

Piggott then join Conroy at the crease, adding a more than useful 25 before he was trapped lbw, from a ball that kept low.

It was Conroy’s tremendous knock that saw Thetford to their third win in three games. A controlled 111 not out which consisted of 16 fours and two sixes, one of which was the winning run, which steered them to the victory total of 206-2 with four overs to go.

THETFORD Sunday team got back to winning ways again, with a 56-run home victory over North Runcton A.

Ryan Conroy (47) top scored for Thetford in their 248-9, although an excellent solo effort of 101 from M Skipper for the visitors wasn’t enough for victory, they petered out to 192-7.
