Bronze joy for swimmers

Three swimmers from Thetford Dolphins swimming club qualified to compete at the ASA 2008 East Regional Championships held at the UEA 50m pool in Norwich.

Three swimmers from Thetford Dolphins swimming club qualified to compete at the ASA 2008 East Regional Championships held at the UEA 50m pool in Norwich.

Luke Walsh (14) and Ben Kleinau (13) competed at the ASA East Region 2008 BAGCAT Championships, while Daniel Clucas (15) competed at the ASA East Region 2008 Youth Championships.

The very best swimmers from the counties of Norfolk, Suffolk, Bedfordshire, Essex, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire competed against each other over two weekends.

Luke Walsh swam brilliantly over the course of the two weekends and qualified for all finals in the events that he entered. The 100m breaststroke race saw Luke enter the final in fifth position (1:23.43) and finish in a fantastic third place (1:17.26), winning a bronze medal. Luke also achieved a terrific fourth place in the 100m freestyle race (58.74) having entered the final in sixth position (59.21). The 200m breaststroke race saw Luke enter the final in fifth position (2:55.75) and then move up one place to finish in fourth (2:50.18).

He also made the final for the 200m individual medley (2:27.46) after finishing in eighth position in the heat, before moving up two positions to finish in a fine sixth position in the time of 2:27.28.

Luke finished in eighth position in the heat for the 100m butterfly race (1:06.80) before moving up one place to seventh in the final (1:06.45), and came seventh for the 400m freestyle (4:38.90), while the 200m freestyle race saw him enter the final in eighth position (2:09.19) and finish in seventh place (2:08.43).

He achieved the excellent position of seventh place overall for the British Age Group Categories (BAGCATS) out of 41 swimmers in his age group.

Ben Kleinau also swam well when he entered the 100m breaststroke final in sixth position in the time of 1:26.15 and he went on to achieve a third place (1:18.97) winning a bronze medal. He also achieved 14th position for the 200m individual medley race (2:37.42), 17th position for the 100m freestyle race (1:03.35) and 21st position for the 200m freestyle race (2:20.45). He was placed 19th overall for the BAGCATS out of 33 swimmers in his age group.

Daniel Clucas swam the 50m freestyle race in the time of 27.92, where he finished in a respectable 26th position out of 32 swimmers in the 15 and under age group. In the 16 and under age group, Daniel achieved 50th position out of 69 swimmers.
