Brandon 5, Sole Bay 2

BRANDON Town progressed to the second round of the Mummery Cup with a comfortable 5-2 victory over Sole Bay United.

A rapid start saw the visitors' offside trap sprung inside the first minute as Kent put Waites through and he coolly lobbed the helpless keeper.

Seven minutes later the lead was doubled as Fowler put Waites through with the visitors again looking forlornly to the assistant.

Sole Bay struggled to get a foothold in the game but their efforts were rewarded in the 21st minute when Town failed to clear their lines and Brooks pulled a goal back.

Two minutes later Brandon restored their two-goal cushion when the referee awarded a penalty for hand-ball. Waites duly completed his hat-trick, sending the keeper the wrong way.

Ten minutes later John took his personal tally to double figures for the season with his fourth of the game, a long clearance from Hovell gave him the opportunity to nip in behind the defence and he finished at the second attempt after the keeper had saved his first effort.

Town noticeably eased their pace and did not add to their first-half tally, the second period saw Sole Bay back in the game as some indifferent defending allowed Foreman to score.

The second half was a largely uninspiring affair as Town were caught offside on numerous occasions.

The scoring was completed as Peckham put Fowler through, he rounded the keeper for a simple tap-in.

The reward for Town is to host last year's runner-up Beccles Town on October 31.
