Winning the toss, Palmer decided to have a bat whilst the sun was blazing.

The opening partnership of A Finch and 15-year-old Alex Reynolds got off to a slow and cautious start, only managing nine runs after seven overs before Finch was caught out by a delivery that kept low.

T Mills then came to the wicket hoping to follow up his last knock of 57 and managed some lusty blows in a quickfire knock of 21. With Groom, Snoad and M Roberts only managing 12 between them whilst Reynolds progressed to a well earned 50. Palmer came out to the wicket to provide some able support to his younger team-mate.

The pair played some excellent shots together with some good running to put on a partnership of 103, which saw Reynolds deservedly pass 100, which was a performance that showed his maturity and promise for the future.

Palmer departed just one short of a half-century and the innings ended with Brandon posting a decent total of 232 for six, Reynolds batting the full 40 overs and ending on 108 not out, including 18 boundaries and some very good defensive play, through which he earned his praise.

After tea, Brandon took to the field knowing they were up against it with only six active fielders.

With the conditions, Palmer opened the bowling with Groom, hoping to bowl tight lines to keep the runs down early on, until Groom broke the opening partnership with a fine catch off his own bowling with the score on 46 after nine overs. Between the two, along with some first class fielding, the home side limped along to 74 for six after 20 overs and Brandon knew they were in with a chance of winning the game.

With two wickets for Finch and one for Mills, the Woolpit innings closed on 186 for nine from 40 overs to complete a fantastic win for a depleted Brandon team by 46 runs.

Man-of-the-Match was Alex Reynolds for his outstanding batting performance.

All eight team members thoroughly deserved the win that they worked extremely hard for and hopefully with the existing team plus a couple of new faces next season the team can mount a good promotion challenge.
