A strong team from Thetford Athletic Club travelled to Peterborough to take part in the East Anglian League meeting with many excellent performances and personal bests.

Emma Hassey, competing in the U11 girls' 80m sprint, crossed the line in a commendable fourth in 15.5 seconds and was placed fifth in the long jump with .22m.

Older sister Bethan had two good runs in the U13 girls to achieve PB times in two races; 2:51.5 in the 800m to finish fifth, and 32.2 in the 200m to cross the line in a well-deserved second place. She also performed well in the high jump to finish in second place with 1.15m.

In the U15 girls Grace Humby ran very well in the 1500m to take first place with a time of 5:30.0, and achieved a PB distance of 5.71m in the shot for third place.

Three club members competed in the U17 women's section. Megan Norry was placed a creditable second in the long jump with a PB of 3.63m and finished the 300m in 51.0 to finish in fourth place.

Megan Claxton came home with two PBs; finishing the 200m in 30.8 for fourth place and jumping well in the long jump to take second place with 3.69m. Elisha Bowers crossed the line in 16.7 in the 100m to finish fourth.

Competing in the U11 boys, Joseph Nicholson improved his PBs in both the 80m and 600m, finishing the sprint in 13.2 for second position and the longer distance in 2:21.0 to finish sixth.

In the U15 boys Will Moore was second in the shot with a distance of 9.04m, cleared 9.71m in the triple jump with a PB and second place, and finished fourth in the 100m in 14.5.

Thrower Oliver Thompson had an excellent day with first place performances in the hammer and discus, with a PB distance of 31.27m in the discus. Daniel Howe was also pleased with a first place throw of 19.63m in the discus, and 20.22m in the hammer.

In the U17 men's section, Joe Kirton achieved two second places in both the 800m (2:15.7) and 400m (57.5) with a PB at the shorter distance.

Jonny Mead ran well in the 1500m to cross the line in 4:37.3 for second place. Tom Busson was placed fourth in the 100m in 14.0 and cleared 8.57m in the triple jump.

In the senior men's section, Josh Bucciferro finished third in the 100m with a time of 12.5. Gary Howe was placed third in the hammer and fourth in the discus, and crossed the line in 11:55.2 in the 3000m.

Dean Kirton achieved fifth place in the shot and finished the 3000m in 11:37.8. Sean Hassey finished the 400m in a PB time of 1:15.3 for fourth place.

The club is running free junior taster sessions on Saturday rom 10.30-11.30am at Thetford Rugby Club on the Munford Road for all 8-16 year olds.
