A PRIMARY school has surpassed all expectations in cross-country running

More than 30 children regularly compete in the Ryston Runners Grand Prix at Shouldham on Sunday mornings between October and March.

After the final race at the end of March the The Edmund de Moundeford Primary School, in Feltwell, above, won the Grand Prix series overall and was awarded the Primary School’s Shield. The children were also presented with small mementoes.

In the final event, Chloe Conway came third in the under nine girls’ event, Harvey McGeeney was third in the under 11 boys and Charlie Wakefield was second in the under nine boys. Charlie was also presented with an award for coming third in the overall series. The school thanked Breckland School Sports Partnership for providing shirts for the children and head Julie Lillycrop added: “Some of the children find running difficult but have shown great determination and perseverance. The Ryston trophy is on display in the entrance hall to remind children of their achievements.”

The children also celebrated winning the Methwold cluster cross country event which involved the eight schools. Feltwell were victorious in all age groups and 14 of the children were selected to run in the Breckland Partnership cross-country where Mia Arnold came third in the year five girls’ event.

Harvey McGeeney was second in the year six boys, Chloe Conway second in the year four girls and Charlie Wakefield won the year three boys overall. Ten of the Feltwell children were selected to run in the county finals on March 25 when Charlie Wakefield gained third place in the year three boys’ race and Harvey McGeeney was a credible eighth.
