A group of tiny tots from a Thetford nursery have started monthly visits to elderly residents in a care home.

West Suffolk College childcare apprentices saw a documentary on the success of the scheme elsewhere, so decided to implement it in the Norfolk town.

The youngsters from Jelly Tots Nursery in Thetford are visiting the residents of Alexander Court and singing songs to them, as well as saying hello.

Lorraine Sims, work based learning co-ordinator in early years at West Suffolk College, said the first visit - which took place in October - had been a great success.

“The children seemed to bring light to the older people’s eyes and they were all smiling,” she said.

“They enjoyed watching the children sing their songs. I am sure the future visits will be just as good.”
