A woman driver was airlifted to hospital yesterday after suffering a serious head injury in a single-vehicle collision in Brandon town centre.The elderly woman, who was driving a blue Renault Clio, was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, following the incident in the town's High Street at 12.
A woman driver was airlifted to hospital yesterday after suffering a serious head injury in a single-vehicle collision in Brandon town centre.
The elderly woman, who was driving a blue Renault Clio, was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, following the incident in the town's High Street at 12.45pm.
It is believed the woman had been in the car with her husband when it had broken down.
A spokeswoman for the East Anglian Air Ambulance said a lorry driver pulled over to offer assistance to the couple by helping to push the car but when the woman's husband turned the ignition the car jolted and she bumped her head.
When paramedics arrived the woman was unconscious. When she regained consciousness, she was confused, the spokeswoman said.
The air ambulance took off from Norwich at 12.54pm and she was at Addenbrooke's within the hour. The incident closed the High Street for much of the afternoon and brought considerable congestion to the area.
