Wildlife garden to be launched on Saturday in Thetford

A new wildlife garden will be launched on Saturday in Thetford and the whole community is invited to take part.
A group of volunteers is all set to create Thetford’s Big Wildlife Garden at Keystone Development Trust’s headquarters at The Limes, on Bridge Street.
The public garden, funded from the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All programme, will be designed and planted by volunteers with the whole community invited to take part in its creation.
To help launch the garden to the public, Norfolk Wildlife Trust will hold a day of free wildlife workshops.
The activities will run throughout the day starting from 9am and include a Big Urban Bio-blitz, a 15- minute workshop on how to attract birds to the garden, a talk on how to encourage bugs into the garden, and a wild garden workshop.
There will be a display of photographs showing how the garden used to be before volunteers from the 2 Sisters Food Group started their work on the garden, and local garden designer Tom Callis will be displaying plans for the new and improved wildlife garden.
Sarah Williams, project coordinator, said: “The new wildlife garden is a really exciting opportunity for the community; they can be involved right from start which could include planting fruit bush’s, plants and herbs or making bird box’s to encourage wild birds.
“Eventually we hope that they will visit the garden that they have helped create and pick their own fruit to take home.”
The launch of the Big Wildlife Garden will take place on Saturday between 9am and 3pm at The Limes.
