A modern new church with plasma TV and a Starbucks-style café area is set to open on a Thetford industrial estate at the weekend.

The Liberty Christian Family Centre was founded in the town almost eight years ago with its congregation growing from 11 to more than 100.

The expanding church, which was based at the Redcastle Furze Community Centre, will officially open its new building on Kelvin Place on Saturday.

The former warehouse on the Stephenson Way Industrial Estate has enough space for more than 250 worshippers and includes a chill out area with plasma television, games and a café area.

Pastor Mick Cox said the Liberty Centre will be able to accommodate its growing congregation and its youth workers and staff. The church organises the annual Storm music festival in Thetford and the Storm Foundation charitable initiative.

“It is going to be very modern and a 21st century church. When people see what we have done with the place they will be quite shocked,” he said.

The centre is set to be officially opened by Thetford mayor Robert Kybird at 7.30pm on Saturday.
