Services at a Suffolk hospital have returned to normal following an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.

A ward at the West Suffolk Hospital at Bury St Edmunds was closed last week after 11 patients showed symptoms of the highly contagious diarrhoea and vomiting norovirus and the patients were isolated to stop the illness from spreading.

A spokeswoman for the NHS Trust today said that the G4 ward had received a thorough clean and was reopened to new admissions yesterday . She added that the norovirus had not spread to any other wards.

Anyone with the winter vomiting virus is urged to stay away from hospital and visitors are asked to wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water to avoid another outbreak.
