A charity is seeking volunteers who can offer skills and expertise in exchange for building up their CV. The Thetford-based Keystone Development Trust is seeking graduates, or undergraduates with relevant skills or experience, to contribute for at least one day a week for a minimum period of three months. The Career Builder scheme, the charity says, will give people experience while allowing Keystone the chance to build up data on a variety of topics, based on interests and expertise of the volunteers.

Chief executive Neil Stott said a variety of placements were on offer supporting senior members of staff in areas including community research, management support, business planning and research into particular areas such as mental health, obesity or worklessness.

“We’ve got a series of projects helping people back into work and we have a need to bring in skilled people which we can’t really afford at the moment to help out with what’s going on in the community,” he said. “It struck me there must be young people out there who would want the experience and even better someone who’s grown up in Thetford and is a role-model for the young people.”

Katie Rush, from Thetford, is the first volunteer on board after achieving a first class degree in sociology from Canterbury Christ Church University. She is currently exploring young people’s concerns about worklessness and assisting in work clubs.
