Thetford express delivery giant TNT will still be going strong in 100 years after being named among an elite band of most sustainable companies across the globe by business magazine Forbes.

The TNT depot, based at Howlett Way, Fisons Way Industrial Estate, is the only company in its sector to feature on the 100-strong list, which tracks companies most likely to still be flourishing in the year 2109.

TNT, the UK's leading business-to-business express operator, rubs shoulders with some of the world's best known brands, including Coca Cola, The Walt Disney Company, Nike and Dell in the Forbes listing. Surprisingly, high-tech giants like Google and Microsoft don't make the list, as researchers believed technology is a more fickle industry, especially over the course of a century.

Thetford depot general manager David Clarke said: “We've already seen a number of household names go out of business during the present economic downturn. These are tough times across all business sectors so to be identified as one of the companies most likely to emerge from the recession and go on to bigger and even better things is a real boost and a testament to our longevity.

“We celebrated 30 years of TNT in the UK last year, so to begin our 31st year with an endorsement from such an eminent body as Forbes is very pleasing.”

One of the mainstays of TNT's success is the company's approach on matters relating to corporate social responsibility and the environment.

Mr Clarke added: “We have an ongoing commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and making a positive contribution to the communities in which we operate. For instance, we are in the midst of introducing a 100-strong fleet of zero emission electric vehicles into major urban areas to help cut our CO emissions.

“We have a global programme entitled 'Planet Me' that encourages our employees, customers and suppliers, to do all they can to help preserve the environment."
