Firefighters rescued three people from a derelict Thetford hotel last night after the second blaze in a month. People were reported to still be inside the former Anchor Hotel in Bridge Street when firefighters arrived shortly after 8pm.
Firefighters rescued three people from a derelict Thetford hotel last night after the second blaze in a month.
People were reported to still be inside the former Anchor Hotel in Bridge Street when firefighters arrived shortly after 8pm.
Crews extinguished a small fire in rubbish and accounted for one person.
Another person was reported missing, and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus searched the building, removing a further two people. The fire, which was extinguished by 8.34pm, had been started deliberately.
The hotel, made famous by television show Dad's Army, has been subjected to a number of arson attacks since it was closed and boarded up in 2006.
A month ago firefighters were called to the 18th century building after a small fire broke out in the bar area. Two men aged between 40 and 60 were rescued and were treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.
A police spokesman said it was believed the men had lit a fire to keep themselves warm and it was not being treated as malicious.
