THE entire Thetford community is invited to a day of celebration and fireworks in aid of charity.

The event will be held on remembrance Sunday and all money raised will go towards the Help for Heroes charity which supports wounded servicemen and women.

Larry Gray, of Earl Gray and Son, which is organising the event alongside the town council, said he intended the fund day to become an annual event and had already received overwhelming support.

He added: “It's about making it a community event; it's not just a big business thing. We're thinking of the town and want them to have a firework display.

“They've been various events in the past but there's been so much money involved in running them so running this one, using all my friends and contacts, to work with me, we're going to keep the cost down to a minimum.”

Entrance is free, as are the firework displays, but there will be a cost for the fairground rides. The day will also include performances from local bands and a DJ, and a number of stalls.

Thetford town manager, Susan Glossop, said: “We just thought that if we have this big family fun day which is for everybody, it's good for the community spirit, plus it's for a good cause.”

The afternoon will begin at 2pm on November 8 at Barnham Cross Common in the heart of Thetford. The first firework display will be especially designed for children and begin at 4.45pm. The adult display will be held at 7pm.
