Thetford pupils ended the year on a high note as musicians put in a fine show in aid of Christmas.

Thetford Grammar students took part in a variety of performances ranging from solo endeavours to the whole school choir which sang renditions of In the Bleak Midwinter and Mad World.

Other highlights included John Rutter’s Angels Carol, by Vocalease, the school’s choir, Drum Line, a percussion group which opened the evening with a rendition of Mad Gecko, and the rock band which played the evening out with tracks by The Zutons and Maroon 5.

The programme also contained a sprinkling of solo items from young musicians such as saxophone solos from Megan Gallacher and Robert Bailey; piano pieces from Harry Howell, Jack Bercovici and Chloe Fox; as well as a violin solo from Grace Colasante. This was interspersed by vocal solos from Polina Sosnina, Margaret Bohn and Brittany Banks. Other soloists were Pippa Hendrie, Jade Whitehurst and Anna Clement.

Ensemble performances were given by the schools flautists who performed Winter Wonderland, closely followed by the string ensemble with the theme from Pirates of Caribbean. Headmaster Gareth Price, said: “It is good to hear such an eclectic range of music and the strength of our music-making owes much to the support of the peripatetic music staff.”
