A fun day of building dens also held a serious message for school children.

Early years through to year six pupils at Theford Grammar School learnt the importance of shelter and helped to raise money when they took part in Save the Children’s Den Day.

The pupils were divided into their Houses and enthusiastically built their dens with cardboard boxes supplied by Simon Long Removals and Sarah Douthwaite from Thetford Tesco.

The challenge was to create their shelters which they could all fit into and enjoy their break-time snack.

Head of key stage three Heather Pringle judged the creations on stability, longevity and design.

Daniella Dunsmore, head of religious studies and who organised the event, said: “It’s a great initiative by Save the Children to learn about the importance of shelter and raise not only money but awareness for such a fantastic charity.”
