Thetford Family Fun Day could become annual event

ORGANISERS of Thetford's first Family Fun Day have said the event was such a success, it will become an annual fixture for the town.

Crowds gathered at Barnham Cross Common on Sunday to visit the fairground rides, live music and firework displays at the free event.

Two individual firework displays were laid on, sponsored by fairground company L Gray and Sons.

A children's display was held in the afternoon and a louder adult's show was put on in the evening at 7pm.

Between the firework displays there were clowns, jugglers and two camels from Circus Mondauo to entertain the crowds.

Volunteers from the Dad's Army museum in Thetford also arrived in full costume and a steam engine from the Charles Burrell Steam Museum was running on the day.

Susan Glossop, Thetford town manager, said that the event was such a hit with residents that it would likely become an annual tradition.

“We hadn't had a firework display for several years. It was lovely to see the families there enjoying themselves,” she said.

“I was absolutely thrilled. The town came out in crowds and absolutely loved it.”

Organiser Larry Gray, who works for Wymondham-based L Gray and Sons, said that the event was the culmination of month's of planning and hard work on the part of many volunteers from the town who did a “marvellous job”.
