A Thetford man proved every dog does have its day after walking away with a top prize at Crufts.

Rufus, a two-and-a-half-year-old Canadian Eskimo dog, was one of over 26,000 dogs at Birmingham’s NEC and claimed the prestigious Best of Breed award.

Owner David Salter, 50, fought off competition from 12 other dogs to scoop the coveted prize before going on to compete for Best in Group.

And Mr Salter was left beaming with pride at his and Rufus’ performance at the world-famous Crufts in the West Midlands.

“This is my third Best of Breed in the winning but you can never get tired of winning at Crufts, it is the highlight of the year,” he said.

“And Rufus clearly loves it too because although this is my third straight Best of Breed, it is his second as we won last year so it is nice to come back and defend our crown.

“It is always nice to win at Crufts so I am really proud of what Rufus has done.”
