A 40mph speed zone in a Norfolk could be extended as 5,000 new homes are built in the town.

Thetford Town Council will discuss plans to increase the length of the limit on Norwich Road, in Croxton, from the Kilverstone Road junction on Monday, April 29.

It currently lasts for 140 metres but the proposal has been put forward as construction continues on the Thetford Kingsfleet development of 5,000 homes. If approved the zone will be increased by 230 metres to the north-east.

Planning permission for the area, including up to 5,000 homes, employment land, three schools, a community centre and healthcare facilities, was obtained in 2016.

The first phase of building, by Suffolk-based housebuilder Hopkins Homes, will include 292 one and two bed flats and two, three, four and five bed houses as well as 51 affordable homes.

The homes are expected to go on sale in spring 2019.
