A THETFORD delivery business is celebrating after raising millions of pounds for charity.

The express delivery company TNT, based at Howlett Way on Fisons Way Industrial Estate, has raised as much money as possible for the Wooden Spoon charity which helps youngsters who are mentally, physically or socially disadvantaged.

The total raised is now past the 2.5m mark.

Depot general manager David Clarke, said: “We always strive to beat our previous best in all that we do as a company and generating funds for the Spoon is no exception, but the onset of the recession has made it especially challenging.

“Now we're all focusing on our next big target - trying to hit the 3m mark - and we're hopeful we'll be able to deliver the next m within the next two years.

“We're still in the grip of a recession but the generosity of our employees continues to shine through. It makes me very proud to see our achievements when it comes to helping those most in need in society.”

During 2009, more than 400 employees visited a Spoon-supported project to see how their donations are spent.

Tom Bell, TNT's UK regional managing director, added: “I never cease to be amazed at the generosity and ingenuity of our people when it comes to supporting worthy causes.

“Their energy and enthusiasm to support kids who are disadvantaged physically, mentally and socially is staggering and I am enormously proud of this achievement.”
