A free advice service in Thetford has received a boost with the news that it is set to move to larger premises.

The Citizens Advice Bureau has been based in a cramped Victorian house in Earls Street for the last 35 years.

But the service will relocate to more spacious surroundings later this month when it moves to Breckland House in St Nicholas Street.

Officials from the Diss, Thetford, and District CAB spoke of their delight yesterday following news of the relocation to the Breckland Council building. The CAB will leave its old premises on Friday February 20 and open to the public on level 3 of Breckland House from 10am on Tuesday February 24.

Cynthia Schears, bureau manager of the Diss, Thetford and District CAB, said: “We are delighted that the council has been able to give us the opportunity to move into more modern offices. The building is in a more prominent location with increased space for volunteers and staff and is fully accessible for disabled visitors, volunteers and staff. The improved facility will help us to deliver a more effective service and experience for members of the community,” she said.

The district council released funds last year to create four interview rooms at Breckland House to enable the CAB to lease the space.

Paul Claussen, executive member for housing and economic at Breckland Council, said: “As a local authority we recognise the invaluable service the Citizens Advice Bureau offer to our residents and we are pleased to have been in a position to assist them in finding suitable alternative office space.”
