BROWNIES from Thetford have rewarded for their hard work with afternoon tea at a town centre hotel.

The girls from the 3rd Thetford pack were given the tasty treat after helping to raise money for charity. Stuart Evans, from the Bell Hotel, had offered a meal for two as a prize, byt on hearing how hard the Brownies had worked out in the cold, he extended the offer to afternoon tea for the whole pack.

The Brownies spent an entire afternoon at a firework event last November, raising money to get to the Starburst event for Brownies at Butlins in Skegness on January 15. They were also able to contribute to the Help for Heroes collection on the day.

Mr Evans said: “It's great to be able to help out the local community, the girls were out in the cold all afternoon so we thought we would give them a treat to say well done.”

Brown Owl Karen-Emma White added: “I'm really grateful to the Bell for all their support. The girls enjoyed a really super afternoon with a surprise visit from Father Christmas. The Brownies were invited with their families because they went the extra mile for their pack.

“The Starburst event in January is part of the 100 years of girl guiding celebrations and a once in a lifetime experience for the Brownies.”

The pack had another surprise Christmas present when Center Parcs donated half the money required for travel costs.

Throughout 2010, the Brownies will be concentrating on their Adventure 100 badge, featuring a series of 10 challenges.
