A national building society has thanked its mid Norfolk customers for donating woolly hats “in droves” to a Norwich homeless charity.

The Nottingham held drop off points in their branches for the knitted items in Dereham, Fakenham and Thetford over the last few weeks.

And now boxes full of hats have been delivered to the St Martins Housing Trust to be distributed to those in need.

A spokesman for the building society said: “Kind-hearted locals visited the branches in their droves over to drop off knitted items, or donated wool for others to knit hats with.”

Thetford manager Sharon Clark said: “Collecting the hats and raising awareness of a charity that does great work to tackle homelessness and support those affected was another chance for us to give back to local people.”

She added: “Thank you to everyone who kindly donated and showed how Norfolk people are truly prepared to do the right thing for people in their communities.”
