TWO adventurous workers will leave behind the warmth and comfort of their everyday life to take part in a challenging series of climbs, all in the name of charity.
TWO adventurous workers will leave behind the warmth and comfort of their everyday life to take part in a challenging series of climbs, all in the name of charity.
Alison Arnold and David Cordner, who both work at the Norwich and Peterborough Building Society in Thetford, will attempt to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge in less than 12 hours.
Over the Easter break, this will involve a 24-mile trek, which will involve 5,000 feet of ascent and descent on the Pen-y-ghent (691m), Whernside (728m), and Ingleborough (723m) mountains.
The pair will donate the money raised to the Bury St Edmunds branch of the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society.
Ms Arnold, 37, a customer advisor at the building society, said: “An old school friend of mine has MS, aged just 37, and has been fundraising for the MS Society.
“I wanted to do something to help with fundraising and because her condition challenges her physically, I felt it would be fitting to take part in a physical challenge myself.
“David has experience of hill walking so we agreed, along with our partners, that we would attempt the Yorkshire Three Peaks.
“We have been regularly walking over the last few months, mainly locally and along the north Norfolk coast to build up our distances, and we have also trained on hills in Derbyshire.”
The MS Society is a charity which funds research into the condition, runs respite centres, and provides grants, training and education.
Mr Cordner, 40, a financial planner from Feltwell, added: “When Alison told me what she wanted to do and why, I thought it was a brilliant idea.
“As Alison has no experience of hill walking, I thought I could help out with the navigation side of things and as the training has been going on now since back in October, it has meant that post Christmas bulge was kept well at bay. I'm really looking forward to it and hope that we can raise a good amount for our local charity.”
