FEARS that a new development could

lead to a severe chemical spillage were allayed at a planning meeting.

Residents near Snetterton and Quidenham objected to proposals for a large industrial unit on Harling Road to process and store a plastics additive, because of worries that a leak would lead to serious health problems.

Several people tried to ask the company, Richard Johnston Ltd, for more information about the process

and chemicals used.

But the firm's bosses said they could not reveal certain details as it was a patented formula and a new product.

The company has repeatedly said that health and safety would be up to standard and systems were in place to cater for every eventuality.

Breckland Council's development control committee approved the application

after the Health and Safety Executive supplied extra technical details.
