Families and visitors in Norfolk have only two weeks left to vote for Thetford Forest Park, which is running for the UK's favourite picnic spot title. Judges have confirmed that this year's Warburtons Picnic Awards looks set to be a closely fought contest with no obvious winner at this stage.

The annual awards, now in their second year, coincide with National Bread Week, which runs this week, celebrating the Great British picnic and the UK's love of loaves.

Thetford Forest Park has been shortlisted with nine other sites for East Anglia's Best Picnic Spot. This year it is up against Grafham Water in Cambridgeshire, Wandlebury Country Park in Babraham, Ferry Meadows Country Park in Peterborough, Holkham Beach in Norfolk, Sea Palling Beach in Norfolk, Dunwich Beach in Suffolk, West Stow Country Park in Suffolk, Needham Lake and Nature Reserve in Suffolk and Rendlesham Forest Centre in Suffolk. All regional winners will then battle it out for the coveted national prize.

Keith Brown, from East of England Tourism, who has been involved with the shortlisting process, said: “We want as many people as possible to vote as there are some great picnic spots in this area and it would be fantastic if one of them collected the national award. This would allow us to promote the region even further.”

The overall winner will receive £1,000 cash bursary for the site and a plaque to ensure all visitors know it's the UK's favourite place to picnic. Each regional winner will also be presented with a £500 bursary towards the maintenance of the site.

Last year's East of England's winner was Sea Palling Beach in Norfolk, while the national award went to Cannon Hall in Yorkshire.
