SWIMMERS in Thetford could make a splash for charity as they compete in the world's biggest swim.

As part of events taking place across the country, Breckland Leisure Centre and Waterworld will hold a swimathon in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Swimathon Foundation.

Last year's event, raised 1.5m and organisers are hoping to beat that this year.

The swimathon, supported by Olympic gold medallist Duncan Goodhew, is open to beginners and experienced swimmers, with people challenging themselves to complete up to five kilometres as an individual or part of a team.

Centre manager at Breckland Leisure Centre and Waterworld Richard Savory, said: “Swimathon is a fantastic opportunity for swimmers of all ages and abilities to get themselves into the pool, have fun, keep fit, and most importantly raise money for an extremely worthwhile charity.

“We are extremely pleased to be participating and hope that as many people of possible get involved.”

The event will be held on Sunday, April 18, between 1pm and 3.30pm.
