A Thetford food producer has applied to install solar panels on its factory at the demand of its clients.
The 2 Sisters Food Group, which located to Caxton Way in Thetford a year ago, could save the company 18 tonnes of carbon emissions per year if 208 solar photovoltaic panels are given the go ahead.
In a report to go before Breckland Council planning officials, agents York Green Renewables Ltd said: “The site’s customers have demanded carbon reduction measures by the applicant as a condition of continuing commercial relationships and this proposal will satisfy these requirements.
“We as agent have considered other renewable energy proposals for the site such as wind power but due to the proximity of residential property around the site solar pv is the only currently viable solution.”
The report went on to say the buildings are “heavy consumers” of electricity.
If given the go-ahead the panels would not be visible from any public footpath and would take up to four weeks to install.
A decision will be made by April 13.
