WHILE many Britons have spent the past few weeks battling against record-breaking snow, a group of youngsters in the west of the county pledged to help those across the world who have to deal with icy conditions every day.
Thanks to the efforts of hundreds of Lakenheath Middle School students, as part of a campaign called Snow Plough Express, 50 boxes of winter clothes have been sent to youngsters at orphanages in Kyrgyzstan, formerly part of the Soviet Union in central Asia.
Teacher Kay Taylor and Lt Col Bradley Allen, from the 100th aircraft maintenance squadron at RAF Mildenhall, co-ordinated the project to send warm clothing to the Nizhanchuisk Nadjeshda and Tok Mok II orphanages.
Lt Col Allen said: “These children will be able to enjoy much better and warmer clothing than they currently have.
“These children are much, much less fortunate than we are. “This just proves how kind and compassionate people can be.”
